uddy MacKay has always been a different kind of public servant — he built a 27 year record of service based on finding common-sense solutions to the problems facing Floridas families. As a result, his leadership earned him the reputation of Florida's most influential lieutenant governor in history. As a state representative and senator, a Congressman and as Lt. Governor, MacKay has focused on the issues that matter most to the families of Florida: working to improve the quality of schools, ensuring that families have access to affordable health care, making sure Florida's neighborhoods are safe, preserving and protecting Florida's environment and transforming the state into the "Gateway to the Americas."

MacKay and his wife Anne, a former school teacher, are strong advocates of Florida's public education system. MacKay co-chaired the Florida Commission on Education, Reform and Accountability, which is credited with identifying and improving over 120 critically low performing schools throughout the state. Throughout his tenure as Lt. Governor, MacKay believed in providing public schools with the tools they need so our children could learn. He fought for more textbooks, more technology, and smaller and safer classrooms. Both he and Anne recognized that the key to equal opportunity began with early childhood education so every child would start school ready to learn. He fought for better child care opportunities throughout the stare while Anne served on the state board of HIPPY: Home Instruction Program for Preschool Youngsters.

Buddy and Anne were both born and raised in Ocala. Buddy earned his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Florida, while Anne graduated from the University of North Carolina. The MacKays have been married for more than 35 years. They enjoy hiking and gardening and spending time with their four sons, three daughters-in-law and six grandchildren.
